Everyone struggles at some point in their life and seeking counseling services can help when you become stuck in this struggle. Counseling sessions can help you and your family by offering support and by giving you new ideas and tools to use in your current situation and also into your future.
Couples
There are several reasons that couples choose to seek counseling services; from differing parenting views to intimacy concerns and infidelity, extended family pressures and communication struggles are all issues that can push a couple apart. Often it can be difficult to overcome these on one’s own; however counseling can be a good place to address and work through these struggles. Couples often feel a stronger connection and a re-newed commitment to each other after counseling sessions.
Families
Family counseling can be beneficial and is a place for each member of your family to be heard and to discuss the concerns that they have in a safe environment. These sessions give your family the opportunity to work on communication skills, parenting issues, concerns connected to being a blended family and the space to work through life transitions. These sessions are geared toward the entire family, they are child friendly and can be a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bonds that exists between each family members.
Children
There are many reasons that you may consider counseling for your child. When your child comes to session I will use a variety of therapy techniques to ensure that they feel comfortable and have a positive experience. I use child therapy approaches that incorporate play, art and stories. Parents are always involved in children’s sessions to some degree, this will be discussed at the first session and throughout therapy.
Teens
The teenage years can be an exciting and stressful time for both the teen and their parents. This is a time in life when teenagers begin to look for independence and often this can cause friction in the family. At times parents can feel overwhelmed by the changes that they see in their teen. In addition there are outside concerns of peer influences and issues with school. Teens often struggle to express their emotions and will appear angry, sad, defiant or withdrawn. When teens attend counseling they are given the opportunity to be heard and to learn new way to effectively express themselves. Usually individual teen sessions are combined with family therapy, as it is important for the family to learn and grow together.
Adults and Individuals
Individual sessions focus on the concerns that you are having and on your path to personal growth and happiness. Whether this is to help bring balance to your life, relieve feelings of sadness, anxiety and stress, grief or moving forwards from a trauma we will collaborate together to reach your goals and personal wellness. Sometimes we all need a netural space to go to in order to gain a different perspective about our situation. In therapy you will have the chance to explore the concerns you are having and will be given the opportunity to learn new ways to approach and think about your life.
